How Online BG Remover works

Online BG Remover uses on-device segmentation to isolate your subject and remove the background without uploading anything. The workflow is simple, fast, and designed to keep your images private.

Step-by-step

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP image up to 10MB from your device.
  2. Click "Remove Background" to run MediaPipe Selfie Segmentation in your browser.
  3. Refine the result with threshold and feather controls, then download a PNG or JPG.

Why it feels fast

Processing happens locally using WebAssembly, which avoids network latency. There is no waiting for uploads or server queues. Results appear as soon as the model finishes creating the mask.

The app loads the segmentation model only after you select an image, keeping the initial page load light.

Quality controls explained

The threshold slider determines how confident the model must be before a pixel is kept as foreground. Lower values keep more detail, which helps with hair or soft edges, while higher values create a stronger separation for clean silhouettes.

Feathering adds a subtle blur to the mask before it is applied. This softens harsh edges and helps the subject blend naturally when placed on a new background. For product photos with hard edges, keep feathering low. For portraits, a small amount usually looks better.

Background mode lets you choose transparency, white, or a custom color. PNG exports are best for transparent backgrounds, while JPG exports are best for solid colors and quick uploads.

Privacy first

Your images never leave the browser. There is no server-side processing, and files are kept only in memory while you work. When you reset the tool or refresh the page, the data is cleared.
